Things to consider when building your fence.

posted in: Latest News
A fence can improve your home's curb appeal, provide security, increase your privacy, and offer protection from the elements. But before construction begins, here are some things you should consider before deciding on your fence.
Know Why You Want One:
Having residential fences and gates is always a good idea, but knowing exactly why it is that you want one will help you choose the type of fence that will best benefit you. For example, the type of fence that will simply keep the dog in the yard is a different type than one that will block out sound.
Acknowledge Your  Neighbors:
If you live in close quarters, make sure that you are being considerate of them and their properties. It might be good to talk to them and see what they would be okay with before settling on an option.
Consider the Weather and Natural Surroundings:
Different types of material react differently depending on the climate of the area. Maybe you get a nice breeze off the ocean and do not want to lose that? Wood swells and shrinks depending on the weather, some metals can rust more easily in salt air than others, and so on. You'll want the type of fence that is durable to your situation.
Think About Maintenance:
While a picket fence fits the American Dream, wood fences require a lot more maintenance than other fences, because they can potentially warp or rot. If you are okay with the upkeep of a certain type of fence, then go for it!
Homeowner Association Regulations:
Some HOAs have regulations on the height, color, or material your fence can be and some require a construction permit. Make sure you do your homework on your HOA if you have one and get all of the necessary specs and permits before you start fence installation. Don’t waste time and money installing a beautiful new fence only to rip it out because it is too tall.
